Maybe his success has gone to his head a bit because he has a huge ego, and it seems like he just loses control when he suffers some bad luck. He often mocks and bashes those that play in ways he deems less than optimal, insulting them with childish names and calling them stupid. He even received a penalty from the floor in the 2008 WSOP for verbally abusing a player that showed the table he’d bluffed Hellmuth off his hand with weak suited cards. His personality and countless shenanigans have earned him the honor of being called “The Poker Brat”.

It looks like Hellmuth is making good use of his unique nickname, however. It’s to be expected that he’s made instructional DVDs, but you might be surprised to find out that he also helped make a mobile phone poker game. He writes a newspaper column called “Hand of the Week” about interesting poker hands, and he blogs for both CardPlayer and UB. And then if you think about all the times he appears on TV at the tables and on reality shows, it’s clear that Hellmuth has a busy poker life outside of the tables.
